Log splitters are handy tools that can turn softwood or hardwood into smaller pieces. They come in handy when you need a large amount of firewood. They work by pressing a log through a stationary blade to split it in half. Log splitters save time and effort because you don't have to use the axe to split the logs physically.  

A log splitter has a hydraulic piston.  You need to place the log in the equipment and align it properly before switching on the piston. The machine will push the log against a sharp blade with great force, splitting the wood in two.
